Living with diabetes
AS someone whose life hinges on eating the right food, it is no surprise that diabetes sufferer Denise Jones takes a keen interest in the ingredients list of everything she buys at the supermarket.
Mrs Jones, who has type-two diabetes, took part in a recent community virtual shopping tour, run by Diabetes Australia Queensland, designed to help people see through the marketing gimmicks and other tricks employed by food manufacturers.
The aim is to teach people what to look for when buying food and where to find the nutrition information.
While the classes are designed for people living with diabetes, they are relevant to anyone who cares about their diet.

A health camp was organized by Congress MP from Mumbai North Sanjay Nirupam, which is inaugurated by Azad and after inaugurating, he said that diabetes is the major obstacle in the treatment of other diseases. The diabetes control program provides opportunities to the patient to undergo diagnostic tests for the disease in the next two years.
The minister holds an opinion that if diabetes control programme will not be launched then India might become the hub of diabetic patients and there is an immediate need for keeping the healthcare in momentum.
Azad said that our government is still focusing on improving infrastructure which includes roads, power, water and irrigation but what is the benefit of all these facilities when we are not focusing on the health of residents of the country.
Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said that people who are living under poverty line would be given the benefit of having free treatment of serious diseases of heart, kidney and even cancer up to Rs 2.5 lakh. He also added that adequate financial provisions have been made in the state budget.
Nirupam has organized a three day health camp which will treat over 50,000 patients suffering from cancer, heart diseases, gynecological and dental disorders.
