Health experts to get training on diabetes
DOHA: The Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA) will today launch a training programme on diabetes for health experts that would qualify the participants for an international certification as diabetes educators.
The Art and Science of Diabetes Education Course is conducted by the American Association of Diabetes Education (AADE) at the Recreation Centre at Education City.
The three-day event will be attended by 69 nurses, dieticians and other healthcare professionals who will receive an in-depth review of the fundamental concepts that support diabetes self management education.
Participants will work with course facilitators to explore the core scientific basis for diabetes education and care whilst applying concepts to patient situations.
The course also aims to illustrate, through the use of case studies, the progression of diabetes and clinical management. At the end of the programme the participants will be examined and based on that they will receive a certificate recognising them as diabetes educators.
???It is a real honour for QDA to host such a prestigious institute from America who have come to Qatar for the very first time to share their knowledge and expertise on diabetes education and care,??? said Dr Sharoud Al Jundi, spokesperson for Qatar Diabetes Association.
???Diabetes is a very real problem in Qatar and the wider Middle East, and QDA is committed to ensuring that those who suffer from diabetes have the best possible care. We also aim to educate people on the preventative measures that can be taken to combat the disease,??? she added.
Each course will be taught by a team of registered healthcare professionals. The team will include a nurse, pharmacist, and dietician and will use an interactive learning environment to assimilate new knowledge and skills.
AADE is a multidisciplinary association of healthcare professionals dedicated to integrating self-management as a key outcome in the care of people with diabetes and related chronic conditions. It looks to lead the community by developing evidence-based guidelines, offering sound educational programs and promoting outcomes-driven care.
